Key Factors for Moving Home Day

You’ve got the deposit, found a mortgage that suits you and the transaction is complete. Moving day is nearly here, but what else is there to worry about before the big day?

Move Your Energy – It is best to contact your energy providers as soon as possible about your home move. Notify them at least 48 hours prior to the move, providing your new address, moving date and final meter reading on the day you move out. If you are switching suppliers this ensures as smooth a process as possible. It is a good time to look into switching tariff to a cheaper payment too!

Move Broadband and Phone – Some phone and broadband suppliers will happily just switch over the service to a new address, but in some cases this might not be possible. The same as with utilities, ensure all parties know well in advance, as the last thing you want is days without Internet access when you move into a new property.

Redirect Mail – In advance of the move contact Royal Mail and put a redirect on all mail delivered to your old home address. You can choose to do so for a period of time that suits you (3, 6, or 12-months), whilst you take the time to update all records on your new address.

Register to Vote – In order to be able to vote in all upcoming elections, but also to help your credit rating, update the electoral roll as soon as possible once you have moved address. This can easily be done through online forms on the Government electoral register website.
